Julie Chop is the Real Estate Development Specialist for the Portsmouth Economic Development Department. Julie expertly manages the real estate portfolio of the Portsmouth Economic Development Authority (EDA) and the Portsmouth Port and Industrial Commission (PPIC), overseeing lease transactions, property management, contract negotiations, and entitlement processes. Her strategic insights, analytical skills, and passion for Portsmouth help identify promising investment opportunities that align with Portsmouth's development goals.  

 

Julie is a skilled professional with nearly a decade of versatile government, planning, organizational, and leadership experience, preparing her to play a pivotal role in driving economic growth in Portsmouth. Prior to her current role, Julie's tenure at the Portsmouth Planning Department honed her expertise in land use policy. She spearheaded efforts to streamline regulations, creating a more attractive and welcoming community. Her innovative and strategic approach to planning initiatives has made her a trusted leader in advocating for positive growth for the city in which she lives and works.  

 

Julie holds a Master's degree in Urban and Regional Planning from Virginia Tech and actively contributes to professional and volunteer organizations. She serves as Vice President of External Affairs for the Virginia Chapter of the American Planning Association, Vice President of the Portsmouth Service League, and was recognized as a 2022 Insider Business Top 40 Under 40 honoree.
